CALL, as the name implies is
an invitation or a welcome
to an abstract but still
existing world that is not
visible to the naked eye, an
intangible experience
through... the music of
CALL.
CALL was formed in 94 when
Xulfi(EP) who was almost 11
or 12 years old. Omer
Pervaiz (Naqsh) and Danish
heading NCA`s Mime Group
UNDRAP NEXUS started
composing background music
for the mime performances at
NCA, Lahore. The music was
theatrical and befitting the
dramatic mime performances.
After a few successful
events in NCA, Khurram,
elder bro. of Danish and
Xulfi, baught a drumkit and
gave birth to CALL. The band
was the brain child of
Danish still known for his
creative and most daring
attributes to the music and
art. Shahzad Hameed was
included in the force of
CALL as the bass player.
At that time, Call derived
major inspirations from Pink
Floyd, Led Zepplin and Iron
Maiden. We had our first gig
in 95 with flame torches all
around the ground and two
huge screen slides on both
sides of the band plus live
mime performances. There we
performed 10 original songs
and were highly appreciated.
Some people thought we were
crazy because no one was
daring enough to take such a
bold step in the music
industry back in 95.We did
not play any covers and
stuck to our own
compositions till 99.
Omer decided to start his
solo project Naqsh and he
departed and so did Shahzad
Hameed. We added two young
talented players, Ahsan Fida
Khan, Lead Guitars and
Faisel Murtaza on the BASS
guitars and continued
fighting the 'WAR for ROCK',
participated in all the rock
festivals that were
organised in Lahore.
On 20 Oct 2001, Danish
performed for the last time
in the rock festival on his
birthday and decided to
leave the band as he wanted
to pursue a career other
than music. At that moment
CALL was disbanded and every
one moved on with their own
lives... and other projects.
Khurram moved to USA, Xulfi
was busy with Paradigm and
then later on EP. Ahsan and
Faisel both had family
obligations to take care of.
Khurram, being the band
leader returned from the US
in September 2002 . He could
not suppress the music pangs
urging him towards creating
music and decided to revive
CALL.He added new talented
musicians in the band and
started CALL's first urdu
project. Now being the Band
Leader Khurram and Xulfi
being the supporting force
did auditions and finalized
Junaid as the vocalist and
later on added talented
Sunny on the lead guitars,
Sultan on bass (Xulfi's
student) and Usman (Sunny's
bro.) on rhythems.
Now the mission of the band
is to carry on where it
stopped on 20 oct 2001.
CALL`s music is alternative
rock with strong powerful
vocals and meaningful
lyrics.
The inspirations and derived
from the adult Alternative
rock and nu metal. The music
depicts our moods and states
of mind while we were
creating. It has a diverse
range from heavy numbers for
the headbangers delight and
mellow numbers which are
quite meditative. Call
intends to experiment with
creativity and come up with
a different package on the
whole... different from all
its contemporaries.
The three masterminds behind
Call Khurram, Junaid and
Sunny are aiming towards
creating more powerful
numbers and recording them
as they progress towards the
completion of their first
album.
Life is Yet to Begin,
We CALL You All to Perform A
Sacred Sin!
- CALL .

Music Management base in Pakistan.
Jumpy: Hobbies?
K.J.K: Scrolling forums, Chatting, playing with my
kids and playing drums.
Jumpy: Future plans?
K.J.K:
Plans
to promote and produce as many bands as possible under the umbrella of my Music
management co., Jilawatan Production along with my brother Xulfi's Xth Harmonics
Audio & Video studio. But to bring CALL to the top of the charts is my number
one dream and I will make it possible along with my band members.
Jumpy: How long you have been involved in media?
K.J.K: Over 2 years.
Jumpy: What had inspired you in making music?
K.J.K: Since my school days I was found of Music
and drums always been my most desired instrument. I was with the earlier lineup
of CALL that was Xulfi, Danish, Omer Pervaiz and Shahzad Hameed, were creating
original stuff since 94 but never recorded any of it but always wanted to. My
inspiration comes from within my self and also from my brother Xulfi who is 13
year younger but still I am inspired by him. While making music I could get
inspired by anything but mostly I get inspired by the Creator of the World I see
His miracles and every thing happening around us.
Jumpy: How has your experience with Pakistani media been so far?
K.J.K: Media, and
Pakistan, don't ask me the first review that we got in the news papers in 94
after our first concert, in The daily News was “what the heck these guys are
trying to do”. The labeled us death metal maniacs and blah blah the one who
covered the event could not understand any think cause she was an over 35 years
old editor going through her own mid life crises and who had no experience with
the guitar oriented music. We had the gig in open area with flame torches, mime
performances and huge active projected screens which was beyond them. So we had
a controversial media start. Where as now the media is supportive and I am sure
if we do what we did earlier could be an instant HIT.
Jumpy: Your debut video "Nishaan" is now being aired on
music channels rather frequently. What's the concept behind the video?
K.J.K: The Video on IM is just a live footage the conceptual video will
be aired shortly.
Jumpy: A media revolution seems to be in session in Pakistan, Mostly
through music. Would you say
this applies to other fields
of media as well?
K.J.K: Yeah some what yes they are inter related.
Jumpy: How far do you
see Pakistani media extend
itself?
K.J.K: I could not predict any think but it sees to
be going fine and will go far beyond provided there are not hindrance from the
political ON and OFFS
Jumpy: How importance a role does play in terms of national outlook? Do
you see our media meeting all criteria?
K.J.K: Nationalism is
important but its sad that its is lacking and i do not want to comment on that
because it a sensitive issue and I could go one writing pages and still we will
be lost. WE NEED TO REMEMBER WHO WE ARE A PAKISTANI FIRST.
Jumpy: What flaws do you
see in Pakistani media
today?
K.J.K:
The
media wants to cover a journey of 10years in one year that’s the flaw I would
say slow and steady wins the race.
Jumpy: What about your music education?
K.J.K: Self taught and still trying to learn.
Jumpy: Tell us about your music equipments?
K.J.K: MAX Pro 5Pc DrumKit with Zildijian Cymbals.
Jumpy: Tell us about your recordings (describe your style and every
recording)?
K.J.K: I have naturally developed a style that
focused on the tempo and I am not the aggressive kindda drummer rather focus on
clean and only the required drum parts for any particular song. I believe that I
do not want to impress people by my drums rather give them an entire package
that is the song which is refreshing and enjoyable as a whole. I will never try
to over do drums that’s my style.
Jumpy: What we can expect from "Call" in the future? Have you
chalked out an entire plan?
If so please to share it
with us.
K.J.K:
Call
will be releasing few vdos and after that the album very near in the future. We
have plans to make sure that we make music that being alternative still be to
reach out to the masses and help them becoming better music listeners. The Job
that EP started we would like to be standing right beside them in this fight
Inshallah.

living?

Jumpy: How long you have been involved in media?
Usman: For the last 6 months or so.
Jumpy: What had inspired you in making music?
Usman: Mainly the will to explore my own self in a
unique way. Also i was inspired by the western bands that made a difference to
the world of music and i in turn wanna do the same.
Jumpy: How has your experience with Pakistani media been so far?
Usman: I think the media
is pretty supportive as all the hype of rock music is mainly bcoz of the media
projection.
Jumpy: Your debut video "Nishaan" is now being aired on
music channels rather frequently. What's the concept behind the video?
Usman: As yet only one video which is not even official is being aired on
IM.We r planning to shoot an official video for NISHAAN real soon. The present
version is just a live kinda recording by IM.
Jumpy: A media revolution seems to be in session in Pakistan, Mostly
through music. Would you say
this applies to other fields
of media as well?
Usman:
Im not too sure what to comment on this.Im not too much into the local media.
Jumpy: How far do you
see Pakistani media extend
itself?
Usman:
I think they r moving on the rite lines and with a certain
level of creativity and of course effort, they can do wonders. we have loads of
talent in Pakistan.
Jumpy: How importance a role does play in terms of national outlook? Do
you see our media meeting
all criteria?
Usman:
well not exactly. Our TV channels are doing a good job, but i think they have a
long way yet to go if they r competing with the international media. So for now
they should just try to not loose their individuality and try and improve with
time.
Jumpy: What flaws do you
see in Pakistani media
today?
Usman:
Firstly i think our media has not revolutionized with the changing times. And so
they r way behind the international standards. In recent years some good dynamic
changes have been made but for more than a decade before that, there has been a
static phase.

Usman:
I dint take any professional music education, just learnt from my brother and am
trying to improve my skills with the guitar.

recording)?
Usman: As yet we have done only one recording and
that of the song nishaan. xulfi of EP produced it. As for style, our music is
alternative rock, which means there would be stuff for the head bangers as well
as mellow and slow stuff. We arnt going to follow a particular pattern.
Jumpy: What we can expect from "Call" in the future? Have you
chalked out an entire plan?
If so please to share it
with us.
Usman:
We are planning to come up with our album by the end of april. Other than that
our two video shoots are scheduled. So inshallah we will try to bring a
revolution in the Pakistan music scene. An effort which was initiated by EP.

creed, guns n roses.
Jumpy: Other
Occupations?
Usman: None other as yet.

special as entered my life. So the truth is that i am falling in love with music
in a true sense. I hope i can do justice with it.

living?
